TUNINGFIELD. 2013. Tuning Field, 2013. David Goodman.Hand painted wood stakes (Primer, Flashe paint). Joshua Tree, CA
Registration in a new environment. Participant receives stake. Walking from the front porch out into the front field of BoxoHouse. Participant looks directly in front of them to engage with surroundings. Participant walks in quietude. Participant places stake in the ground where they find rest/comfort/peace brought about by interacting with their surroundings: ie. listening to the wind, hearing the echos of sound off the surrounding mountains, smell of earth, warmth of sun, vastness of sky, vibrations of live ammunition from 29 Palms Marine Base, etc.
Participant does not mark the stake with name or identification. The stake is a trace of this moment in the history of the project. It serves as a measurement of involvement and functions as a reminder to future participants that they place their stake as an individual, but they are not alone in this endeavor.
